About Us

Active Physiotherapy Solutions is a friendly practice with an experienced physiotherapy team. Trevor and Andrea McLaren, Principal Physiotherapists, and their associates have worked in a wide variety of Health settings in Australia and overseas.

Physiotherapy assists with restoring and optimising function to the body when movement or activity is disrupted. This dysfunction can be due to injury or gradual onset through biomechanical issues and poor movement patterns. Conditions that can be assisted by physiotherapy are as diverse as sports injuries, work injuries, back and knee pain, headaches, respiratory conditions, arthritis, pre and post-surgery rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, orthopaedic conditions, geriatric conditions, children’s developmental problems and women’s health and pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Active Physiotherapy Solutions has a fully equipped Clinical Pilates Gym to assist with physiotherapy treatment and health optimisation.

Trevor McLaren

Trevor McLaren has been practising as a Physiotherapist for 35 years. He graduated from the University of Queensland and has worked in NSW, the Middle East and United Kingdom before returning to settle in his hometown of Bundaberg. Trevor enjoys family time, fishing, camping and various sports including Touch Footy and Golden Oldies Rugby. He is an active member of the Bundaberg community and enjoys church life.

Andrea McLaren

Andrea McLaren is Trevor’s wife and has been practicing Physiotherapy for 36 years. She originates from NSW and graduated from Cumberland College of Health Sciences. She also worked in NSW, the Middle East and United Kingdom and came with Trevor to live and work in Bundaberg where they had their 5 children. Andrea enjoys many cultural pursuits including singing and music, photography and is an active member of the Bundaberg community, volunteering at Dance eistedffods, as well as Church activities. Andrea has volunteered as a Physiotherapist in an overseas orphanage and is passionate about bettering children’s lives.

Christine Girgis

Christine Girgis graduated from the University of Cairo and has worked in various Health sectors in Egypt until moving to Australia last year. Christine is passionate about helping people and regularly volunteered in Medical Missions in disadvantaged areas in Egypt and Africa. She has rapidly become involved in Bundaberg and volunteered in free community events as an actor. She has taken up new challenges in Australia such as learning to ride a bike and enjoying nature. She is also active in her Church.

Physiotherapists

are musculoskeletal specialists who use physical medicine modalities to assist with assessment, diagnosis and treatment of body dysfunction. Physiotherapists have to undergo 4 years of University training to become qualified. They are registered by APHRA and must continue ongoing education during their practice.

Sports Injury Management

With sports injuries it is important to have correct diagnosis and treatment. Treatment may include hands on manual therapy, taping management, electrotherapy, a rehabilitation programme with graded exercise prescription and analysis of technique to assist with prevention of injury.Athletes may not have injuries but notice performance changes and can see our physiotherapists for assessment and advice regarding improving performance and technique.

Common sports injuries include:

- Shin splints
- Stress fractures
- ACL tears & strains
- Tennis or golf elbow
- Post Surgery rehabilitation
- Achilles, patella & other tendon injuries
- Knee, ankle, finger, shoulder & other joint sprains
- Hamstring, quadricep, calf, bicep & other muscle strains

Back Pain and Neck Pain

Many Australians have experienced back and neck pain at some stage of their life. Physiotherapy can assist with assessment, hands on treatment if required and advice to prevent further re occurrence of pain. There are many techniques that can assist including Dry Needling if appropriate. An assessment will determine what is the best management for your symptoms.

Work Injury and Occupational Health

With work injuries our Physiotherapists work closely with GPs and Rehab Coordinators for the best outcome for the injured worker. Besides hands on treatment and Rehabilitation it can include Worksite visits and Suitable Duties Program and Return to Work development. We offer Pre-employment screening and functional assessments also.

Dance assessments – pre pointe and university entrance.

Trevor McLaren was a trained Ballet dancer and attended the prestigious Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. He has a thorough understanding of the art form and movement patterns of Ballet and its rigours. He also is qualified with Dance Medicine Australia to perform Pre Pointe Assessments and trained in Clinical Pilates. He brings this vast knowledge to assist young dancers with assessing their technique and readiness to go enpointe. He also assist young dancers wanting to enhance their technique to perform to their best ability. Trevor has worked with professional dancers through his career.

Paediatrics

Trevor and Andrea have both paediatric experience. Andrea practices most extensively in this area. Conditions that can be assisted with physiotherapy are for example:

- Growth spurts causing pain such as Severs and Osgood Schlatters
- Orthopaedic conditions such as torticollis, plagiocephaly, club feet
- Idiopathic toewalking, intoeing gait
- Developmental delays
- Cerebral Palsy inc Post Botox Intervention therapy
- Congenital conditions such Erbs Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Chromosomal conditions causing gross motor impairment
- Juvenile Arthritis

Our clinic is registered as NDIS Providers. However any child can be seen if there are parental concerns regarding their movement or pain.

Clinical Pilates

Trevor and Andrea are both Level 4 trained Pilates Clinicians through Dance Medicine Australia since 2001. It is used as modality to enhance core stability and strength and address biomechanical issues and postural issues. It is gentle and suitable for all ages and will be used as part of a therapy regime if these issues are assessed in the client. We have a fully equipped Pilates gym with machines.

Appointments & contact

Opening times: The clinic is open for appointments from 8.20 am Monday to Friday. The final appointment available for those days is at 5.20 pm.

Special rates: EFT POS & HICAPS facility is available. Discount for Pensioners, Health Care Concession card and Senior Card holders.

A referral is not required to see us as Physiotherapists are First contact providers. However referrals are required for funding for Work Cover, DVA and Medicare Funded Care Plans from your GP. Our practice is proud to be a preferred provider for Medibank Private, BUPA and WestFund. We are NDIS Registered Providers.

Cancellation: We understand that it is sometimes necessary to cancel and reschedule your appointment. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice. We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee if you fail to attend your appointment without notice.

The practice has private consultation rooms, as well as a separate Clinical Pilates gym and an area suitable for treating children or patients that require more space and privacy. Our premises is relaxed and comfortable with disabled access and toilets and ample off street parking.
